Amazement at the generosity of Joanna S. Rose and her family.
Amazement at the volume of quilts hanging.
Amazement at the diversity of patterns.
Amazement at the variety of reds.
Amazement at the variety of reds.
Amazement at the execution of those patterns.
Amazement at the condition of these quilts.
Amazement at the hand quilting on these quilts.
Amazement at the creativity of those women.
Amazement at the workmanship of SO MANY women who came before us!!
Amazement at being able to stand among such history of quilting.
This exhibition has made a huge impression on me.

Just amazing!!
Thank you once again Linda. The piecing on some of those quilts is incredible, I'm in awe again.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Linda.
ReplyDeleteYour words and pictures keep reminding me what it felt like like to walk down that hallway, through the doors and then be surrounded by all those amazing quilts. I wouldn't have missed it for the world.
I'm so glad that you traveled halfway around the world to see it. You've described the beauty, wonder and awesomeness of it all perfectly. I look forward to seeing the impact the exhibit has on your quilting.
Thank you Linda,
ReplyDeleteI get weepy looking at the photo's and your descriptions...I am sure it really was like a spiritual experience (Like standing in front of David in the Galleria del Academia...but I think that many quilts trumps David by a mile!!!) It's fabulous you are taking the time to share them with us. Like Carrie I am looking forward to seeing these influences on your future quilts.
We've been removed from the show two weeks now, and I just spent the last 1/2 hr looking at pictures and it feels like I"m right there. Great post and a great description of the experience. It's interesting that these quilts are talked about as not being "best" quilts. Feathered stars, applique, marinars compass, intricate quilting, these were not "basic" quilts.
ReplyDeleteThank you for letting us get so close to the exhibits.
ReplyDeleteGosh Linda, what an exhibition of quilts...I'm in awe..
ReplyDeletejust seeing them in these photos is humbling, what a sight to see for real, if only I could have been there, I sure hope they make down under...
Like you wrote, "Amazement at the workmanship of SO MANY women who came before us!!"...
Thank you.
