12 months ago this Sunday March 25th, the quilting world as we know it changed.
Thanks to the generosity of one woman, Joanna S Rose,
an exhibition of 651 red and white quilts were hung for 6 days in New York City.
l was one of the lucky 25,000 people who visited the exhibition.
Even now, 12 months on, l struggle to describe how that
exhibit changed my life and the way l think about quilts.
Its inspired me and many l know to make quilts with simple beauty.
And so to commemorate that week, and to announce this years
Quilts In The Barn Exhibition, l am having a giveaway.
l have 2 bundles of red and white fabrics,
from my own collection, to give away.
There are 12 pieces in each bundle.
How to enter?
Simply leave me a comment on this post,
telling me how, or if, your quilting has been inspired
by the Infinite Variety Exhibition held last year.
If you are a follower, new or old, you will get 2 entries.
So don't forget to mention that.
If you are a no-reply commentor,
please leave an email address l can contact you on if you win.
l will post anywhere in the world.
This giveaway will run till 30 March, which is when the doors
shut 12 months ago, on the Greatest Quilt Exhibit the world ( in my opinion) has ever seen.
Feel free to share this giveaway on your blogs.
And so, on to the BIG announcement.

l will be back over the next few days sharing my pictures from
The Quilted Crow's Gathering In The Barn,
that was held this past weekend, here in the Barn.
In the mean time, if you can't wait,
I was so disappointed about the Infinite Variety exhibition for two reasons - I found out about it too late to go, and it wasn't going on the road to a location near me! After viewing the exhibition online I felt like I could spend the rest of my life making two color quilts and never run out of ideas! We are so entranced with all of our fabrics as well as patterns that we sometimes lose sight of the simplicity that makes so many quilts true works of art. Would love to be entered - two times if I read your post correctly!
ReplyDeleteThe exhibit was amazing for many reasons not only the quilts and the way they were displayed but the excitement that was exhibited during , after and still today about this show is just incredible. I still find myself looking at that exhibit on line almost every day remembering a quilt and wanting to see it again.
ReplyDeleteI will never forget the feeling I had as I walked into the armory and saw the quilts hanging, just to hard to describe in words....
and of course meeting you and Bev and your friends was just so fun!
Kathie
Linda, Your generosity is appreciated, not just for this give away but for the tireless work you and your friends put into the QIB annual show. I was not able to go to the NY exhibiton but have since downloaded the app so I can enjoy the pictures. I love the simplicity of 2 tone quilts and am really look forward to the show in October. PS - I am an "old" follower!
ReplyDeleteSo sorry it was too far away for me to visit the exhibition. But after seeing some great pictures at several blogs I start to collect red and white repro fabrics to make a large quilt with tiny pieces some day!
ReplyDeleteJeanneke
Although I never saw the exhibition in person I read a lot of blog posts about it - it really captured the blog world's imagination didn't it? I love 2 colour quilts but I've only made a small blue and white one! I did take part in an online red charm swap though with a view to making a red and white quilt someday soon!
ReplyDeleteI'm a happy follower!
I am a follower :) and I would LOVE to win these fabrics, pretty please ;)
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry to say I have never heard of the Exhibition until now. :/
ReplyDeleteI saw on you tube (i think) a 3D film of the exebition and because I was making a 'dear jane' in red and white, I was so excited!
ReplyDeleteI am now a follower of your blog!
Hi, I`m a follower. I only heard about the show, but would have loved to go.
ReplyDeleteLiving in Australia made it a bit hard to get to the exhibition, but I enjoyed seeing all the photos and videos that were on the web. Along with all my other projects, I'm making a red and white quilt which was inspired by the Red and White quilt exhibition.
ReplyDeleteI love red and white quilts. Would have loved to go, but enjoyed it through photos. Thanks for a chance.
ReplyDeletetoo far away for me but i did some amazing photographs of the exhibition and i would love to make a red and white :))
ReplyDeleteOh wow, I wish I were close enough to go to your quilt show! I love red and white quilts. But didn't make the show sadly. I'm a follower of your blog -- have followed your blog but just now became official. lol!
ReplyDeleteHow on earth would anyone of us who was there really discribe what it was like . I don't think there will be anything like it again along with all those new friendhships and bonds that it created.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to meeting up next month in France.
I would have loved to have been able to attend the red and white quilt show. I ate up all the photos I could find on the Internet but I know its not quite the same. Still i made a great impression on me and the power of quilts. I'm a follower of your blog too...I adore your blog!
ReplyDeleteIt would have been amazing to see that exhibit, and I envy you the indescribable joy of having been there. I, too, sopped up every blog post I could about the show and watched the slideshow. A red and white scrappy tablerunner was my inspired creation and I entered it in our local County Fair, where it won a second prize ribbon. Thanks for the opportunity to win some red and white fabric!
ReplyDeleteI am a follower and love the fact that you are helping us revisit the red and white! I discovered the show when I started following blogs last summer. There was so much discussion on the blogs and so many quilters were making their versions. I have downloaded the app on my iPad and get to have my own little show whenever I want. Was I influenced? Just look in my fabric cupboards...I have been stockpiling reds for awhile now, waiting to make that perfect quilt!
ReplyDeleteI'm only sorry that this wonderful exhibition was held in one place only and didn't travel to a few internatinal destinations! I have always loved two colour quilts, and had in mind to make a blue/white quilt, but now that I've see red/white that is the direction I want to go in, but so far have only designed it on my EQ, so it is 'virtual' at the moment.
ReplyDeleteWhat a generous giveaway, and two goes at it too, I will keep my fingers crossed!!!!
Also great news about your October plans, ummmm, may need to seriously give that one some thought!!!!!
The exhibition prompted me to hang one of my quilts - a red and white one of course - at home, and have had lots of compliments since. I found the way the quilts were hung in the wonderful spirals as inspiring as the quilts themselves, but sadly was unable to attend.
ReplyDeleteThanks very much for this opportunity - am a follower so two entries please ;)
I was unable to see the exhibition, but fell in love with the pictures, and have been collection red and white fabric. I would love to be in your giveaway. I have been following your blog for sometime. have a great day happy quilting
ReplyDeleteI've been inspired by the Infinite Variety Exhibition held last year; by way of admiring quilts & how simple designs can be absolutely stunning in 2 colours. The geometry & how some patterns can 'play' on the mind depending if you focus on the red or the white fabric. I haven't yet (it's on my to do list) made a red & white quilt, but I'm in the process of making a lemoyne star quilt with just 3 fabrics......................
ReplyDeletePerhaps a red & white wool quilt using applique skills learnt at the 'Gathering'
I am already a stalker, ooops I mean follower of your blog (lol)
I was so thrilled to see the quilt exhibition through your photos and other quilters who were so blessed to visit! I have enjoyed seeing how these quilts have affected & influenced quilting worldwide! What a wonderful & generous gift of Mrs. Rose to share with the quilting world! I have absolutely been amazed by the variety of designs that were collected by Mrs. Rose. So, of course a red and white quilt is next on my quilt list to finish. It is actually a wedding album quilt inspired by your quilt and will be finished in time for the newlywed's 1st year anniversary! I am a follower & have enjoyed visiting 2 Quilt in the Barn shows through your blog! Wonderful news on the upcoming Quilt show for 2012! My dream come true would be to visit this year!!
ReplyDeleteI was very inspired by all of your photos on your blog which sent me seaching for more. Have made a few smaller quilts and hope to tackle a larger one soon. The date was penciled in as soon as you announced it last Friday. Will be there rain, hail or shine. Oh and I am a follower.
ReplyDeleteI am definetly a follower and quilting enthusiast. I am prsently making the just takes two bom. Because of that quilt presentation in New York , I must have my own red and white quilt.
ReplyDeleteMartha in Minnesota
I was so glad I decided to make the trip to that show. It was truely a once in a lifetime event. A truely emotional experience. What a great idea for your show this year.
ReplyDeleteYes, I follow you as well.
I was so excited to see the photos from that exhibition... I was in shock and awe even 3000 miles away. What a wonderful exhibit. I look forward to making my own red & white quilt one day.
ReplyDeleteOpps forgot to mention I follow too :)
ReplyDeleteThe Infinite Variety exhibit was the most incredible "museum/exhibit" experience I have ever had. There truly was infinite variety in the quilts, and the way they were hung was nothing short of breath-taking. Walking into the Armory and seeing them floating in air was one of those moments in life you never forget. The interest and excitement of the visitors was palpable. More than a few times, someone stopped me to ask how a quilt is made, so the viewers were quilters and nonquilters alike. I still look at the iPad app frequently. I started a red and white hand-piecing quilt soon afterwards, but I will probably do more. I am a long-time follower from across the sea. Someday, I hope to be a visitor, too!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing so much with us through your blog. Your blog and others is how I viewed the Infinite Variety show. It really proved how striking two color quilts can be and also how wonderful it was to see the quilting in those light areas, really magnificent! I follow your blog and would enjoy sharing your fabrics, I too am planning to make some red and white quilts. Thanks again Linda, I will look forward to this years Quilts in the Barn, sounds wonderful!
ReplyDeleteI totally agree! It was the best quilt show ever, and I can't imagine anything ever topping it! We made a mini vaca of the trip to NY, and went to it for 3 solid days! I just couldn't get enough! And I hit the other 2 museums showing quilts AND a local quilt guild show, too! It was all about the quilts for me that weekend! Of course, I immediately came home and had to start a R&W quilt.....not done yet, but I'll get back to it soon. And my Jubilee quilt is replicating my favorite quilt from that show. Oh my......that show will stay with me forever!
ReplyDeleteThanks for a great giveaway.....and making us all reminisce again about that amazing show!
And I SO want to get to Australia some day.....it's on my list! :o)
And I'm a follower, too! Love your blog! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI've loved seeing hte photos from this show....I so wish I could have been there in person. A white/white quilt is on my to do list. I'd love to have a small stash win to help get it going :) Thanks in advance! I read your blog often!
ReplyDeletethanks for the opportunity to win in your generous giveaway! i did not get to go to the infinite variety show, but i remember how mesmerized i was by all the wonderful quilts shown throughout the blogging world. with me, it reaffirmed the idea that no matter how simplistic (or traditional) quilts are, they all have the ability to be a work of art.:)
ReplyDeleteI too visited the Infinite Variety quilt show from afar and I too now have a stash of red and white fabric ready to be sewn. Although I don't have a blog of my own I enjoy reading yours.
ReplyDeleteLinda, NYC was too far away, for this "old" follower, even one like me who travels a lot, so to see a revisited version here in Melbourne will be wonderful. I've been collecting red and white fabrics for years from all over the place, world, not knowing that there were many others out there who are, or have already done, the same. Although my collection of reds and whites is not large enough yet to make a quilt, I'm working on that idea all the time, I have been inspired to work on all those UFO's or PHD's in the cupboard, so that when I do have enough reds and whites, I'll be ready to go
ReplyDeleteWell haven't seen it myself. I just dreweld over THE pictures, whached some video's and just loved it. Red is my favorite colour, just ordered red and white curtains for my new quiltingroom! Which i'll show on my blog once it is all done, and the builders gone. So yes i would love to enter you're give away all the way in The Netherlands
ReplyDeleteJust looking at the photos gave so much inspiration. I can only imagine what it must have been like to be there in person.
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to this year's Quilts in the Barn. I came along for the first time last year and had the loveliest of mornings! I'm a follower too! Thanks for the lovely giveaway.
ReplyDeleteI am still in awe over the magnificent quilts in the infinite variety exhibit. I am a follower of your blog, and love to see what wonderful quilts are on it daily. Thanks for your generous giveaway.

Hi Linda, I'm a follower :-) I saw the exhibition online but the impact was immediate! The awe and wonder over those incredible quilts and the generosity of a woman who wanted to share her passion makes me lost for words. The inspiration for me is to keep loving what I do (making quilts), to share that love and passion that I have for quiltmaking and to make as many red and white quilts as I can (well maybe other colours will sneak in lol). Thank you for your continued inspiration with the wonderful quilts you show on your blog and for the generous giveaway.
ReplyDeleteI did not see that exhibit, although I remember seeing photos posted on the internet. I have only attended a few larger quilt shows, and they definitely were an inspiration!
ReplyDeleteI am a new follower of your blog!
ReplyDeleteHi Linda, as you know, I became a big follower of your blog.I'm very inspired by your lovely quilts. Mainly the one that stood in the Quiltmania from last year. It's taken a great progress, all the blocks are ready and I'm making the whole top now. Thanks for your inspirering blog and your kindness. Hugs, Margreet PS: I whish I could come and see your exhibition....but the distance is to far.....so I will see the pictures on your blog....
ReplyDeleteHi Linda, I think that I was one of your earliest followers. I have bought so much red and white fabric since the show so I have definitely been influenced.
ReplyDeleteThank you for hosting a wonderful day last Friday.
Hi Linda, just wanted to say what a thrill it was to participate in the 'Gathering in the Barn' last Friday. Leonie & Deirdre were simply wonderful, so helpful & inspiring! i must say i'm hooked on wool applique now lol!!
ReplyDeleteThank you for organizing such a wonderful event..it was perfect!!
I'm very excited about this year's them for 'Quilts in the Barn'..i'm sure it will be a GREAT success!!
cheers, Marian
I was so grateful for all those fortunate visitors to the show; their photos and blogging stories inspired me just as the original collection and exhibit. Red is my favourite colour and it usually works into most of my work. But as I look at my stash, I can see that there must be a red and white quilt in my future. Narrowing it down to one design is difficult but again, bloggers have inspired me to consider several mini designs incorporated into one quilt that I will name for the exhibit. I am a follower and very interested in adding your giveaway to the future quilt.
ReplyDeleteOh Linda, your show is going to be so much fun!! I loved the red and white quilt exhibit in NYC for the quilts, but more then that the way it brought people together. It wasn't just quilters- it was young, old, men, women, and everything in between. You didn't need to be a quilter to enjoy it!!
ReplyDeleteI'm a follower of your blog too:)
I wasn't at the exhibit but it was definitely one of the best quilt shows I've ever seen. The pictures were breathtaking. I have already made a little red and white quilt to celebrate and have a plan for a larger one as well. Thank you for the opportunity to win some beautiful read and white fabric.
ReplyDeleteMary
Two colors a quilt do make.
ReplyDeleteOh how I wish I lived close enough to attend! That pesky ocean is just so in the way. I'm looking forward to seeing pictures, though!!!
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm a follower. I thought I already was - imagine my surprise to find out I just have you on my sidebar! But now it's official.
ReplyDeleteI truly was moved by the exhibit, even though I wasn't there, I searched out every picture I could find on the internet and looked though magazines (purchased a couple) with photos it. The scope and design of the way they showed the quilts absolutely took my breath away. The most beautiful quilt exhibit I have ever seen. Until then, I had thought two color quilts boring **hanging head in shame here**. BUT, after looking at this exhibit over and over again, the of course watching Thelma (of Cupcakes and Daisies) design her tribute to the exhibit, I found I was smitten. I have to make myself a red and white quilts. I decided I wanted a variety of reds and whites in my quilt so I have been trying to pick up enough to make myself a quilt and I don't want it to be a little quilt...it's gotta have some size to it. Finances being what they are, and my stash being shy on reds...well, on most everything, LOL (I've only been quilting for 4 years), but all the same, I am slowly putting together fabrics for my 'Red and White' quilt and eventually, I will have enough to "get er done". Thanks so much for a chance to win these beautiful fabrics. They will go a long way in my "Red and White" project box. Big Hugs...
ReplyDeleteI've just started a red and white farmer's daughter quilt - surely inspired by the exhibit. 10 blocks down, 134 to go. My stash is small and these fabrics would be a perfect addition! VermontPines at aol dot com
ReplyDeleteI am too far away to visit the exhibition in october, I am in France!
ReplyDeleteI made a red and white applique quilt. I think I made this because of all the gorgeous red and white quilts I saw on the b logs.
I became a follower, do i need to comment again?
I couldn't come to the exhibition but looked with great care to all your pictures!!! The distance from Belgium to you over there is a little bit too far :) Nevertheless I was quit excited seeing the extraordinary presentation of the quilts. What a great idea! I would love to win your give away.
ReplyDeleteKind regards!!!
I'm a follower. I so wish I could see the exhibits!! It was nice to see through others quilters camera lens the photos they captured and shared for us less fortunate. I love reds.
ReplyDeleteI have always loved the colour red (it is all through my house and also part of my blog name, berryredstitches.typepad.com), and red and white quilts are a favourite, so I was very excited last year to see the photos of the Red and White Exhibition. Wish I could have been there too. I actually included a link in my blog posts at the time! I was inspired by the beautiful quilts that you all started at your stitching retreat recently and now that you are having a Red and White Exhibition of your own, I'd better get on with finishing some. Hope to meet you there!
ReplyDeletered and white Quilts have always been my favorites, but until I saw the quilts from that show I wouldn't have guessed there could be so many that I would love. pharrisn@mchsi.com
ReplyDeleteHi Linda
ReplyDeleteI loved the exhibition.. I loved the impact of colour and the many interpretations. Red and White quilts are truly classic. What I have also loved is watching your love with the red and white quilts exhibition take shape in the quilts you have made since your visit. They have been an inspiration to many and an unspoken challenge to many to make a Red and white quilt too. I would have loved to have been part of that exhibition in the flesh but thanks to many on the web I have felt part of it.
Just love your blog
Cheers
Lynne
I have just recently got back to quiulting and I was thrilled to get online and see so much about quilting and all the changes. I saw several pictures of the exhibit and it looked truly amazing! The red and white colors all hanging like they had them was breathtaking! Hope to win and thank you for sharing :)
ReplyDeleteI am also a follower :)
ReplyDeleteI never thought that I was a fan of red and white quilts until I saw the pictures of this quilt exhibit. (Sadly I could not get to NYC for the actual exhibit.) In any event, I was so inspired I am trying to make as many red and white quilts as I can this year in 2012. So far I have only completed Sherri Falls, 3 sisters Love Letters BOM based on the etchings fabric collection. Admittedly it is not just red and white, but it is the predominant color scheme and it is a stunning quilt. My next quilt is Vintage French by Thimblecreek quilts using French Generals Rouenneries Deux. I am a fairly new quilter and I am not fast but am hope to make a few red and white quilts this Year Thank you for the contest and maybe just maybe I can visit your exhibit.
ReplyDeleteAlthough I didn't visit the exhibition,(sob & sigh) seeing photos on blogs and viewing the exhibition via the ipad app, I would have to say that the 2 things that amazed me about the exhibition is that one woman, Joanna S Rose, had the foresight & passion to collect so many beautiful quilts and that Thinc Design was choosen to create such an outstanding way to display the quilts.
ReplyDeleteThe contemporary way in which Thinc Design displayed the quilts, to quilters and non quilters in such a different format, made the exhibition exciting and to me seemed to say "these quilts are worth making such an effort for", and the quilts and their makers have been honoured in a wonderful exhibition.
PS. Meant to say I'm an old follower, and looking forward to seeing your exhibition
ReplyDelete2011 was not a year I could get to New York to see the stunning exhibit - however inspiration can be done via proxy. The internet was my proxy - and I am diligently sewing a Mystery quilt designed by sentimental stitches and dearjane blogs - "Just Takes 2" - which was also inspired by the exhibit - and of course, mine is in red and white! Following your blog - and thorough inspired :-)
ReplyDeleteKind regards!
First of all, I had a fantastic day on Friday and want to say "thank you" to you, Bev and all your dedicated helpers - can't wait till the next gathering!!!
ReplyDeleteThe exhibition inspired me in lots of ways. I was totally blown away from all that I saw on the internet and the iphone app. I can only impagine how good it was to see it all in person. The quilts were amazing - so many different patterns and all beautiful in just one colour with a background.
I am so excited about Quilts in the Barn this year, I can't wait till October. xxx
Oh, I know so well how it is to feel happy, so happy and inspired by the beautiful things you see somewhere, that you almost don't touch the ground! And how this can change your life! :-) I am an old follower of your blog and it is a real joy to read it.
ReplyDeleteI wishes i have seen the beatiful red white quilts last year. And i whise i can come to she Mary and her beutiful antique quilts, and it will be fun to meet here again. The pictures of all the red and white quilts inspired my to make my own en my students are also in love of Red- White and for us a bit of blue.
ReplyDeleteI so wish I had seen the red and white quilt show but have had to make do with the iPhone app and photos posted on the Internet. Our quilt group has a challenge on now for red and white quilts. They will be shown at a tea in October so I must get busy on mine.
ReplyDeleteBecause I am from Holland I only saw pictures on internet. It inspired me to start my nearly insane quilt in just red and white. I am almost half way now on this quilt. Greetings lia.vandenbrand@live.nl
ReplyDeleteMy favourite colour is red... If I had it my way...the whole world should be red and white.... I am inspired by anyone's work.

I'm just learning about this wonderful show recently. Have seen some pictures of it and WOW...If these pics have influenced me so much I can just imagine what actually being at the show would do! Thanks for your blog...very inspiring...
ReplyDeleteIt was an amazing show for so many reasons. Meeting fellow bloggers from all over the world, seeing so much history in the quilts, the sheer genius of Thinc Designs. It seems so surreal now when I look back at some of my photos. A year has gone by and I haven't even scratched the surface of what this show has brought to my passion of quilting. I wish I could travel to your show, but it's not in the cards for me right now :-(
ReplyDeleteOwwwww, droooooolll LOL
ReplyDeleteI love reds, always have even long before I heard about patchwork :-)). So I really love to be included in a chance to win a bundle.
Thank you for this great give away.
Dutch hugs
Oh yes, sorry, I forgot to mention I'm a follower of your blog (an with pleasure I might add).
ReplyDeleteWhen I saw all the pictures of the exhibition on internet(Netherlands was too far to come )I really wanted to make an red one.
ReplyDeleteIt turned out to make the Burnt quilt from Di Ford in a lot of red civil war fabrics,I love the quilt every day more I am working on it.
Greets from the netherlands mariannesnijders@home.nl
Living a coast away from New York, I viewed the red and white quilts from a far. Gorgeous. Then a local quilt shop held their own red and white exhibit ala the New York show and I was able to see many red and whites up front and personal. Love the bundles you have put together. I am a faithful follower.
ReplyDeleteTerry
I saw a segment on TV about the exhibit and as I watched so many emotions went through me. Amazement, excitement and most importantly inspiration.
ReplyDeleteHow could just two colours create such an impact? I realise that sometimes we, both in quilting and life, overcomplicate things and the pleasure of simplicity is a joy to be revisited.
So I am going to make a red and white quilt to remind me that sometimes what we think of as plain can be not only beautiful but inspiring.
I know red and white quilts have been around for a very long time but this show has sent not ripples but waves around the quilting world and I for one will be riding that wave right to your show in October. Thank you for your choice of this year's display...I can't wait.
I live in Holland , so a little far to see the exhibition, but I love red and white so I want to take my chance by this give away. Have a nice time.
ReplyDeleteRia.
I have only seen pictures from the exhibition. Wish I could have been there. The thing I find most incredible is the number of quilts-wow! I can't really wrap my head around it.
ReplyDeleteI'm a new follower. I love red and white quilts, fabrics, anything red.
ReplyDeleteI've been a huge fan of two color quilts for so long, and am so happy to see them get their true recognition - especially red and white quilts. Blue and white ain't too shabby either - could this be the next amazing exhibit! Lucky you to see the exhibit in person, but I have enjoyed it tremendously online, and all the wonderful inspiration quilts that are being made.
ReplyDeleteI wish I could of been there to see them but the pictures I've seen are gorgeous, I can only imagine what it was like to them in person. Enough said I have a fondness for two color quilts for a long time. My main color has been blue but the red is smashing. Love a opportunity to win some beauties.
ReplyDeleteDarn forgot to say I have been following your blog for a while now. Thanks again.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see your red and white quilt exhibit!
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry I couldn't see the exhibition in New York. It must have been an amazing experience. The impact of the exhibition is obvious by all the blog posts about it...even now, 12 months later it is still being talked about.
Thank you for offering such a generous giveaway.
I am a follower.
I am so looking forward to your red and white quilts. The quilts in the exhibition were just awesome. I am not sure how words can describe that show. It will always be on my mind. I have since made three red and white quilts. Also purchased more reds when I find them. Thanks for the give away offer.
ReplyDeleteI am a follower.
Red and white make the most beautiful quilts. Ever since the exhibition it's made me think that now is the time to make one of my own. Very inspiring and thank you for the chance to win.I read your blog online.
ReplyDeleteDiann kyquiltymama@hotmail.com
I found the information about this exhibit a day or two after it ended and just about cried as I would have loved to have gone. Repeatedly I have looked at as many images as I could find - two colour quilts are a favourite of mine - and I had lots of fun trying to figure out which quilt in the exhibit was my favourite, a totally impossible task but one that still keeps me occupied on occasion. I love your blog and the whole concept of your barn am looking forward to see who wins this delightful parcel.
ReplyDeleteI'm new to blogging (this is my third attempt, with the help of my daughter). I'm so inspired by your photos and comments from the Infinite Variety Exhibition of Red and White. I now know I must make a red and white quilt. Looks like another one to add to my long long list of quilts to make.
ReplyDeleteI actually met someone the other day who HADN'T heard about the R/W exhibit. After I told her about it, she was eager to search for all the pictures on the internet showing the quilts. So, even after the show closed one year ago, quilters are still being inspired and drawn to its importance in the quilting world. Thank you for this chance to win.
ReplyDeleteI only saw photos after the event took place. I have always loved the beauty of a 2 color quilt and what better color than red?
ReplyDelete...and I am a "new" follower. Can't wait to catch up on your posts.
ReplyDeleteThat show was such a treat and amd I glad it gave us the chance to meet in person. I bet your Quilts in the Barn will be spectacular this year. I am working on binding the baskets quilt this weekend. If I can't be there in person at least the quilt will bring greetings on my behalf.
ReplyDeleteI like the red/whote quilts too. I live in the Netherlands and didn't
ReplyDeletesee the exhibition in australia. It's to far !

I used to live in New York State, just a couple of hours from the city where the Infinite Variety show was hung. Now I'm on the other side of the U.S. and didn't get to see it. I probably wouldn't have thought of going - I thought I didn't like red. I realized a long time ago I didn't like it because my mother always used to make us wear red when we were kids so when we were outside she could find us more easily. So I avoided red for almost 50 years! But then I saw the pictures of the red and white quilts that someone posted. My jaw dropped in awe of those quilts - I was totally taken in and have already made changes - I bought a red sweatshirt first thing, and have no longer been avoiding red in anything as I used to. My life is becoming "reddified" since seeing those pictures - all those gorgeous quilts of red and white. How could I not have loved it before? I tend to be a positive person, so I'm not looking back - I'm looking forward to making not just one but many red and white quilts now! I cannot wait to get started! So I'm quickly finishing up some UFOs in order to concentrate on doing just that!

ReplyDeleteI was inspired by pictures of the exhibit. Seeing the simple old designs hold their own in today's world was wonderful. I would love to have a bundle of red and white to get the creative juices flowing!
ReplyDeleteI have been a follower for quite a while - wish I could visit some day in person!!!

Have loved Red and White quilts for quite a while so this exhibition was a real treat- I viewed on my ipad on the exhibition app. Now I've embarked on the Just takes 2 quiltalong- a mystery involving parts of some of the quilts that were hung in the exhibition.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your very generous give-away.
Oh, forgot to say I'm a follower, too.
ReplyDeleteI was so fortunate to be able to visit the Red and White Exhibit last year - just amazing. I would love to visit your show in your lovely country. I really enjoy your blog and seeing all the projects from "Down Under"! Thank you!

Saw those great quilts on the internet only, (I'm in South Africa and don't have the good fortune to travel) and it re-affirmed for me that two-colour quilts are every bit as stunning as multi-coloured ones. And guess what - one doesn't have to agonise over which are Lights, Mediums and Darks!! Red and white is such a cheerful combination. Blue and White is cool. Green and White is comforting. And so on. Thanks for the opportunity to enter in the draw for your bundles. Margaret
ReplyDeleteLinda, what a thrill it must have been for you to attend the Infinite Variety Exhibition, in York last year!! I can only imagine what it must have been like to be in the midst and surrounded by those red & white treasures, i've got goosee bumps just thinking about it!! I have lost count of the numerous times i've watched it on you tube..it's so engrossing and mesmerising!! I remember the first time i watched it, it left me speechless and i was deeply moved. I couldn't wait to make my very own red & white quilt..a small doll quilt, what a joy it was to make! i'm currently working on two more small quilts..red & white sure is addictive lol!
ReplyDeleteI am very excited about your red & white theme for this year's QIB and what a thrill it will be to meet Mary Koval and drool over her antique red & white quilts..i can't wait!!

ReplyDeleteOh how I longed to go to the exhibit in New York... Instead I was inspired by the pictures that appeared online and I am making a red and white for myself - with lots and lots of handquilting :0)
ReplyDeleteI loved the pictures of the exhibit and wished I could have seen it in real life! I also love your blog and after you posted your photos from the exhibit I forwarded your blog address to my neice and sis-in-law who live in Austrailia and it totally turned them on to red and white quilts...'tho not an official follower of you blog I never miss it. Thanks again. PS I have made 6 red and white (small to large) quilt tops this year.. now on to quilting them!
ReplyDeleteI don't know how many times I have looked/drooled/admired/coveted all of the photos from the infinity exhibition (even downloaded the app for my ipad) and every time I look at the images I find something new, either a block an applique or quilt that I missed the last time and wish I had made the time to go and see the exhibition. I'm making the It takes 2 Bom and making Di Fords' Morrell quilt by hand in red and white this year.So looking forward to seeing the exhibition this year have marked the calendar and can't wait to see Mary's quilts on display.

So looking forward to this years Quilts in the barn exhibition and Marys' quilts especially, I have marked my calendar and booking accommodation nearby too.
ReplyDeleteLong time follower and exhibition visitor.
ReplyDeleteI'm a follower who admires your quilts. I can imagine the exhibition of 651 red and white quilts in New York was amazing. Sadly, I heard about it too late, but even if I had known I wouldn't have been able to make it. 2012 was visiting the International Quilt festival in Houston, where I met you :) I love red and white quilts and am a little jealous that Mary Koval is coming over voor a visit to show her antique quilts. It would be great, to win your giveaway. Who knows? Thanks for organizing this.
