This is the story of The Three Bears.

Bev came for sewing on Monday.
Down the mountain she drove, and up the road to my house.
Over a cuppa we discussed which block we are going to
be making as a swap with our Stashbuster group this year,
and so decided to do a trial run on size.

First came Papa Bear, but he was too big!!

Then came baby bear, but he was too small!!

Finally we made Mama Bear, and she was just right!!

Here they are all playing together.

And in a row.

What a lovely family they make.
(Can anyone tell me what the correct name for this block is? )

Thanks for visiting.
Linda.

  1. cute bears !! :)

especially the picture where the blocks lie one above another.
it could actually create a new pattern.
..if it does not already exist...

    greetings

  3. Hi Linda, "Album Cross" is the name I relate to that block. The version I made has slightly fatter arms. Here's some pics....http://empty-field.blogspot.com/2010/06/rain.html . K

  4. This block is #2881 in Barbara Brackman's "Encyclopedia of Pieced Quilt Patterns." She calls it "Old Italian Block." I also have a link for you to a blog where author Anita Grossman Solomon taught a class with the block. A quilt made with this block is part way down the page at --> http://makeitsimplerworkshops.blogspot.com/

  6. I have seen a quilt using the block called Hot Cross Buns. Sounds good to me.

  7. Personally I call it Crossroads .. but I think that's how so many blocks got their names anyhow .. and why we see so many different names for the same block throughout the year. I just made a mini for myself using this as 2" finished blocks. There's pics on my blog. I've already made 3 more but can't show those yet, there a surprise along with another I'll whip up next week. Check back for pics of those :)
